Synopsis: A, Enter, Working Trot
Jensen's dream since he was nine years old has been to qualify for the Olympic Dressage Team. After nearly thirty years of working towards that goal, he's actually heading to London, but the two weeks he spends in England end up being about far more than just the competition as he struggles with the relationship developing between himself and his groom. When his final ride in London goes horribly awry, Jensen has to learn that sometimes, things don't go the way you plan, but it can all turn out okay in the end.
Excerpt: A, Enter, Working Trot
Jensen remembers exactly when he knew that this horse thing was what he wanted to do with his life.
His sister had harassed their parents for riding lessons incessantly until they’d finally submitted and signed them both up for a group lesson (“it’s a better deal that way!” his momma had insisted), but it wasn’t those first rides that decided him. They were fun, sure, but so was soccer, and football, and his acting class, and teasing the girls at recess.
When Jensen was nine, though, he’d fallen asleep on the couch watching the summer Olympics. Some noise startled him awake, the tv, maybe, or the dogs, or his parents talking—irrelevant. The first thing he saw as he started awake, though, was a man on a big, beautiful bay horse, and it looked like they were dancing.
That’s going to be me some day, Jensen decided, with the certainty only small children have. I want to do that.
