One day, Mab is drawn to a strange book. Then she accidentally transports herself to the land of fairies, right into the heart of the evil fairy queen's castle. Excerpt: Fairy's Book
That close the waves were more then white noise. They were like softly rolling thunder, lapping at the base of the cliffs. Glass shards and ivory bones, spilled from the bowl of a skirt. Rocks clashing, peddles tumbling, and sand as it slipped through an hourglass. The slosh of a bath, echoed a thousand fold and tainted with the bitter sharp of salt and sea grass. Mab raised a hand and tucked her curly hair behind her ears, as to see it all without stray strands of red in her way.
The soft step behind her alert her to Eric’s approach. “I’ve never seen the ocean before,” she said without turning, unable to turn her eyes away. Far out in the water something broke the surface and her breath froze.
“I don’t think there is another ocean like this one in all the worlds,” Eric said softly. “I know where we are - we are just at the edge of the fae realms. A borderland, a place that exists both here and there...” he trailed off. Mab wrenched her gaze away from the vast body of water to look at him. She was surprised by the amount of pain and sorrow she saw in his eyes. She opened her mouth to say something, anything,, but she couldn’t find any words.
“Come on, let’s go,” he said, turning on his heels. “I know where there is some shelter nearby.”
Regretfully Mab tore herself away from the edge of the cliff. She cast glances back over her shoulder at the ocean as she followed Eric.
