Synopsis: Saving December
July 29th, 2007. Joshua Herrin comes into the world. July 29th, 2068. Our world meets Dr. Herrin's.
On that date, Herrin's new plan, an idea of scientific genius, was presented to the entire earth: project ALTER (Adolescents Leading Towards Enhanced Reality). Some are horrified, some are jubilant, but all are fascinated. The project is based on the idea that humans use only ten percent of their brains - why not, Herrin reasons, simply alter people - children, whose minds are easier to mess with - to use more?
Fast forward 13 years, 2081. Project November is perfectly content in the ALTER headquarters. Her brain surgeries have resulted in the ability to read minds. Sometimes she peers into her predecessor's, such as January's, or March's. But she reads nothing but blankness... except for June. His mind is alive with brightly colored images, and words, to her. Words that told her stories, that shaped her dreams. That tell her to run away. But not before saving the future December. It isn't long until November, June, and a shady boy known as Cameron are fighting, not just for all the previous ALTER children, but for the next, who will pay the ultimate price...
Excerpt: Saving December
Wordlessly, Cameron hefted Sophie back up. She grunted and swore as her fingers made a sharp, tinny sound on the grating. “Okay, Okay, wait for it,” he huffed. “Put me down… Cameron. Seriously! Put me down!”
“It’s easier said than done, unless you want me to drop you,” he snarled into her thigh, arms shaking as he attempted to maneuver her to the ground.”
“Drop me, then,” Sophie challenged. “Bring it. I bet it doesn’t even hurt.”
Cameron snorted back. “Oh. So you wanna bet?”
In lieu of answering verbally, Sophie rolled her eyes, lifted her arm, and brought it stubbornly down on the top of Cameron’s shoulder. He yowled and yanked his arms away from her, and she dropped to the floor with a yelp and a sound that could rival a nuclear explosion. Her scream could also rival the victim’s of the said explosion; while they would be silent, Sophie howled, “DAMN IT, CAMERON!”
“I told you so,” he said, attempting to hide his growing smirk.
Sophie groaned, rolling over to bury her face in the metallic ground. Taylor looked upwards as the grate elicited a large screech, seeing Aleana peering down the tunnel. “Is everyone okay?”
“NO,” Sophie shouted back at her. “MY ELBOW IS VIBRATING.”
