Synopsis: Among Ashes

The hero is dead.

Cobryn, prophesized farm-boy turned savior, was killed in the final battle alongside most of his allies—leaving the survivors forced to cross a dangerous country to find a sanctuary that may not exist. It is a cruel world with little chance of survival that young Wendy Thornton finds herself in. Fighting against the overwhelming feelings of her fiancé's death, her sister's betrayal and the forbidden magic inside her, Wendy decides to abandon the now crushed Rebellion and join the Empire with her father.

When residing with the always-moving, gold-loving and selfish Elves, Wendy meets Ian. Still mourning the death of her beloved, she forms a bond with the man as he reveals that he once was a friend of Cobryn and his own feelings of guilt since he was the prophet who sent Cobryn into his death. They part when Wendy's father wishes to continue on towards the castle, where her sister prepares to marry the King, and Ian gives her a promise: "I will avenge Cobryn's death."

But in a world where nothing is as it seems, how do you draw the line between good and evil? Was there even a prophecy to begin with?
