Brief Author Bio:

Hi there!
---> Feel free to visit my eggs at the Dragon Cave!
http://dragcave.net/user/TheJestersDaughter

I'm J. P., a teenage novelist living in her imagination.

I've written two novels, one of which is last year's NaNo, a historical fiction set in the late 1600's, and the other is a medieval fantasy I'm co-authoring, which topped out at just over 300,000 words. Both books are being re-written now.

My biggest stumbling block as a writer is my horrid time management skills, and my penchant for coming up with highly-complex ideas at all the wrong moments. By the time NaNo rolls around, I *should* be finished with all my courses, excepting Latin, which I will carry on until the spring. Oh, early graduation, how I love thee.

My writing has matured ten-fold since last year's NaNo, which is quite a predicament, and probably why my editing on "Lady Wick" is going so slowly. This year, I plan to write a YA sci-fi novel that deals with the ethics of genetic testing. Yeah.

When I'm not writing, I perform in three different bands as a guitarist/vocalist, one of which I started myself. We perform under the name "Wickwire". Yay!!!

In college, I hope to major in Creative Writing and History, or perhaps American Studies. I'd really love to have at least one novel published before I'm through with college.

So, anyway, it looks like my word-padding skills are already coming to fruition! Sorry for that annoyling long bio :p I love to talk; if you'd like to PM me, feel free to :D

Synopsis: Unnatural Selection

Sabra was cultivated and raised in the James Damon testing facility on New Earth. With no memories until the age of eight, Sabra believes that she was bred to be a simple lab technician, but when even this bottom-rung job fails, she is slated to be recycled. As James Damon puts it, she hosts too many "technical imperfections."

Beyond the confines of the testing facility, a rebellion, known as Eden, is rising. Lead by the arrogant and cunning Nehemiah, Eden's crew of misfits manages to smuggle the doomed Sabra out of the testing facility, and welcomes her into their eccentric family. As she settles into her new home, her fellow "imps"—especially the lighthearted Jabez—begin to show her the world outside the testing facility, and life beyond perfection.

But Eden isn't all about friendship and survival. For Nehemiah, it's about ruthless revenge. Sabra becomes appalled and confused when Nehemiah exhibits his burning passion to destroy the scientists and restore Earth to its natural state, both of which completely contradict his sensitivity towards human life. As Sabra grapples with the fine line between justice and murder, she begins to see the secrets Nehemiah tries to hide, and Nehemiah discovers that Sabra might be the key in making—or breaking—his plans.

Excerpt: Unnatural Selection

An exerpt from Nehemiah's point of view. He and Sabra have just left the James Damon testing facility, and are fleeing to Eden, a rebellion group which operates a few days' journey away

There was always that part of him, no matter how small, that wanted throw his body into the fire, just to see what would happen. He could imagine it vividly in his head: his skin would crackle, turn black and peel away, exposing sinewy muscle and alabaster bones beneath. His ashes would pile like little mountains of physical smoke before settling, snug in the crevices of burnt wood.

In the morning, there might be another storm, and his ashes would turn into a paste until they mixed with the dirt. Next spring, maybe he would grow an oak or birch tree, which could stretch to the sky and bear witness to his story for all of eternity.

Or maybe, the wind would begin to blow, and instead of becoming a paste, he would fly, higher and higher, soaring through the leaves, leaving bits of himself wherever he passed. And, next to the fire, he would leave himself as a powder, so soft and fine, until he was made into an anthill, or carried off by a wild beast.

His forehead began to burn and he pulled back. He knew he was too close, but he couldn't help it. With every fiber of his being, he wanted to taste it, to feel it. He wanted to be it.

And in a way he was.

As he looked over at Sabra, breathing shallow, mouth parted, arms thrown, reckless, into the leaves, he smiled. He would be her fire, until one day, she didn't need him anymore. He would lead her to safety, and warm her when she was cold. He would hold a light to the darkness when she needed it, and quietly extinguish himself when she wanted to be alone. During the day, he would become a silent light, pale and inscrutable, and in the shadows, he would scare the away the rogue and rabid beasts.

But… what if he was the beast?

Nehemiah poked the fire with a crooked tree branch and sighed.

It didn't really matter.

He still wanted to be the fire.
