Excerpt: Red Feathers
“I’m afraid I’d have to side with them. If they stay it’s too big a risk. We can’t afford to lose this time. If they’re here—if the three have been born into the same time then it’s for a reason. We shouldn’t underestimate this. We need to get rid of them.” She said.
“Fair enough.” He turned to Margo, knowing that the majority had already spoken but—with the weight of the second in rank, things could still be turned around. “Margo?”
Margo was however still staring at the middle of the room where the mist had gathered moments before. Her eyes focused on something beyond the emptiness of the centre. “The girl. The girl remains.”
Amo frowned. “What?” And as she turned to see what Margo meant along with all the others, her senses caught on.
It was as she caught the faint traces of the narrow brown eyes that had been cast down when the girl appeared that she realised that they were watching them.
As someone called out to cut through the vision, Amo looked right into those eyes.
And she smiled.
The girl has just ruined any chance they’d had of being left alone.
“You’re dead.”
