Synopsis: Boomslang

A working class youth from the North of England becomes a pilot during the last stages of the first world war. He wins a Victoria Cross for safely landing his plane, saving the life of his navigator, despite being seriously injured. He himself is promptly killed by negligent medical care.

Back home, all sorts of local dignatories are keen to benefit from the kudos of having a local hero. A collection raised for the widow and orphan is embezzled, leaving them destitute and embittered.
