This place I know

This place I know, no one should go
There’s danger there, one must beware
Soft as one walks, there evil stalks
Dark paths and trails with haunting wails
Valleys of gloom, towers of doom
Thirsty fountains, hungry mountains
Rivers and lakes swimming with snakes
Bones and bits piled in pits
Magic, deceit, vict’ry, defeat
Is there season, rhyme or reason?
Nobody knows, anything goes
As some will learn with no return

This place I know, did I dare go?
Yes there I’ve been and back again
Many close calls, I saw it all
My eyes’ surprise, monsters of size
Maidens of charm, men who do harm
Castles of wealth, splendor and stealth
Widespread despair, good heroes rare
And tales I’ve heard of what’s occurred
Old histories, new mysteries
Puzzles you find riddle your mind
Hidden treasure, pain and pleasure
A wondrous ride, though I near died

This place I know, you should not go
What’s that you say? You’ll go today?
Not a good move, I don’t approve
It could go bad and end up sad
Though if you must, these words to trust
First get some rest to be your best
And don’t get lost, for it could cost
But most of all, have one to call
Thus at your side, best have a guide
Someone who’s good, know one who would?
I’ve been before and could once more
I know just where to lead you there
