Synopsis: Memoirs of an Unlikely Assassin
‘Memoirs of an Unlikely Assassin’ is the first person account of Jackson Walker; a man who became an infamous assassin by the name of Nex and how it affected his life and his friendships.
----------------------
Jackson Walker was too smart for his own good, but he lived a sheltered life until he went to college. His life takes a turn for the more interesting when Michael Moretti, the unpredictable son of a local mafia don, is determined to bring this bookworm out of his shell. Jackson is starting to learn what life and friendship are all about when the sudden death of his parents and the subsequent loss of his scholarship sends his thoughts down dark roads.
Driven to succeed, but in need of a lot of money fast, he convinces Michael’s dad to hire him and is introduced into the world of organized crime. However, his ambitions are too great to let him stay in such a position for long. Although he had once dreamed of a life in politics, new opportunities had sprung to mind. Money was power, power was influence. The fastest way to gain the kind of money he would need would be to become an assassin.
Michael was reluctant to involve his best friend in a world of crime and because of this reluctance Jackson believes it is best to keep his life as an assassin a secret from one of the few people that he cares about. His rise in the ranks of the underworld is meteoric. Everything seems to be going well, even in his personal life where he falls in love with Moira Delaney.
Yet, his secrets and his ambition take a toll on him. Most of his time is spent travelling or lying about what he is doing. His relationships are strained and there is nothing he can do about it. The final straw is the murder of Michael’s father, Ignacio. Jackson is devastated and vows revenge. He feels himself responsible, in a way, for Ignacio’s death. He takes on his assassin persona and kills everyone who was even remotely involved in Ignacio’s death.
Unable to sit still for long, he leaves almost immediately for Africa and another assassination despite the entreaties of his girlfriend, Moira, to stay. Upon his return she confronts him. Unable to come clean to her, she leaves him. Jackson’s world is slowly starting unravel before his eyes. He takes off, drinking himself into a stupor only to be rescued and then lectured by Michael. The message is the same, come clean.
Committed to his vision and knowing that he has almost attained his goal, he refuses to let go of it. Alone for the first time in his life, he focuses only on his goal and his dream. As he begins to bring himself to the forefront of politics, he begins to leave the life of an assassin behind.
Then the call comes for an assassination that he cannot do. He has been called to assassinate himself. Jackson knows his days are numbered. He accepts the contract to buy himself time to come up with a plan to save his neck. Unable to report it to the authorities and knowing that if he doesn’t kill himself, they’ll just hire someone else, Jackson knows it’s time to come clean with the one person who can help him, his estranged best friend, Michael Moretti.
Jackson arranges to meet at Michael’s place. He is prepared to tell all when someone takes a shot at them. Jackson reacts quickly, shooting back, but the damage has been done. Jackson is awash with guilt that his best friend is nearly dead because of his secret.
With Michael unconscious in the hospital and a death threat over his head, Jackson finally realizes that the only way to make things right is to turn his back on his ambitions. He goes underground to find and stop those who are trying to kill him. Knowing that he could die on this venture, he leaves the memoir for Michael. A part of him hopes that Michael will understand and maybe even forgive him.
