Excerpt: Sabine's Tale
I am standing on the edge of the roof of the local Civic Center.
I am three stories off the ground.
A light breeze of cool air blows across my face.
I can smell the damp leaves around me. It rained a little while ago.
Two people clasp my hands. On my right is my little sister Alida. Alida’s long red hair blows behind her.
On my left is her mirror image, Aradia.
The twins stare ahead, waiting.
I don’t need to turn my head to know the others with me. They are all here- everyone who is important. Everyone who loves me and wants our success stands behind me just breathing and waiting. There is nothing that needs to be said out loud.
The chatter inside my head is non-stop.
He is here: Edward. He is supposed to be here, they are all supposed to be here.
The parking lot of the civic center has been cleared and magically protected. It extends before and behind me. I see the vampires everywhere. If this area wasn’t protected, who knows what these creatures would be doing. Right now they are waiting, just like us. They surround the civic center building and they think they have us trapped. They have no clue who is up here. They have no idea how many people up here would be more than happy to kill them. They have no idea how many of us actually could kill them.
Across the sea of vampires, directly in front of my sisters and me, stands a small group of people in a face off. This is the reason we are here. My entire world depends on this one moment. I could sense the tension of the meeting from the other end of the world. I have foreseen this meeting over and over for many years of my life. I stand here waiting for it to work out the way I have foreseen it. Once that happens I will be complete, I will be whole.
I wait, like I have been waiting all my life. We all wait, like we have all been waiting for our entire lives.
