Synopsis: Working Title: Mystery in Morocco
Set in 1920, this is a tale of two young women, how travel changes them, their adventures in Morocco and the mystery they uncover.
Lady J's husband was reported missing in action assumed killed while D's brother lost his life at the second battle of Arras, 1917.
Lady J's husband had planned to take her travelling in Morocco and, wanting to escape what seems like a meaningless existence in post war London, that's where she now wants to go and invites D to travel with her.
Plans go awry and the two young women, along with Lady J's butler and her French companion, find themselves in France, the very place Lady J wanted to avoid.
They make their way down through France, stopping in Arras, Paris and on the Riviera. Lady J becomes increasingly uncomfortable, memories from the war coming back to traumatise her. She believes she might be going mad.
They eventually find a ship to take them from Marseilles to Tangiers, and once in the warmth of North Africa, surrounded by exotic sights, Lady J begins to recover. D seems to become more and more self-confident the further she gets away from home and Mama.
In Marrakech strange things start to happen. Who is Captain Villiers, the 'man in black' Lady J met briefly in Arras? And who was it really that Lady J thought she saw in the souk, which causes so many problems for D to solve?
