Brief Author Bio: I'm a university student working towards a BFA in non-fiction writing. I collect striped socks and books of fairy tales. I think it's rude to correct people when they use incorrect grammar in speech. My favourite colours are black and green, and my favourite animals are foxes and ravens. While I love to read science fiction, fantasy and horror, my NaNoWriMo project will be a romance novel, just to shake things up. |

Synopsis: A Rose By Another Name
Twenty-year-old Victoria (Tori) Fairbanks, daughter of a wealthy merchant in regency London, has been pledged against her will into a marriage of convenience. Willful and independent young redhead that she is, Tori stows away on a ship to America.
She is discovered by the swarthy and suitably rakish Captain Keith O'Connor, who gives her a choice: either go along with his plan to make her the ship's cook, or have her true identity revealed to the crew and, ultimately, all of London high society.
As the tension between them ebbs with the waves, Tori must choose between a future forged by her family and the destiny that calls her to a love that cannot be.
(I've read or skimmed about 2 dozen romance novels, and I think I'm up to the task. It *almost* writes itself. I hope I can stop being facetious long enough to enjoy creating simple but effective characters who can interact realistically.)
Excerpt: A Rose By Another Name
Her pack was full of provisions which, if well rationed, should last her the entire journey. Eight weeks was a long time, but it was nothing compared to eternity spent in wedlock to that pig, Giles.
