About echotreeLocation: Astoria, Oregon Age:32 Favorite novels: Blackberries In the Dream House, By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept, The Secret Garden, Dune, Blankets.....this is an impossible question and I've really just put down the books I can see from my desk right now.... Favorite writers: Richard Cecil, Diane Frank, Julia Alvarez, Naomi Shihab Nye, Madelieine L'Engle, Maurice Manning, Craig Thompson, David Mack.....again, those are just some of the writers (mostly poets) that I can see from my desk.... Favorite music: usually something slow and slightly moody...like Ray LaMontagne or Patty Griffin.....any single cd that I can just put on repeat so that after a while it's less like music and more like background rhythm that seems to carry me through any creative project.... |

Brief Author Bio: hmmm....born in Jamestown, NY....elementary and middle school in Columbus, IN....high school and undergrad in Lexington, KY....grad school in Louisville, KY....last 2.5 years in Sandpoint, ID.....just moved to Astoria, OR about a month and a half ago. I am the youngest of 4 and have 6 nieces and one nephew. I have a BFA in Art, concentration Artists Books (or Book Arts, it really doesn't matter) which means I know basic book binding and can find a way to call just about anything a book. I make shrines out of suitcases and old boxes and whatever cool stuff I can find lying around. I have an MFA in Creative Writing, concentration Poetry. I write haiku, and am a little terrified at the thought of 50,000 words. After years of art critiques and writing workshops I have learned how to listen to criticism AND praise with an open mind, to understand that what other people say about my work has very little to do with me personally, and to believe that, ultimately, it is my piece. I have transformed myself into a West Coast girl. First I got on a plane and moved to Sandpoint, ID....not technically the coast....the panhandle of Idaho is known as the "inland Northwest"....but it was a transition, a safe place to adjust to the fact that I lived 2000 miles away from everything I've ever known. In Sandpoint I worked at the public library, which in some ways was my dream job. But creativity and the ocean called, and it was time to follow. So I left the safety of my mountains and moved to the Oregon coast. I now live in Astoria and work at a shoe store that has been owned and operated by the same family for 117 years. I go to the beach at least once a week, no matter the weather. I take naps with my dogs. I have finally (I hope) convinced my cat to stop peeing on my bed. |
