Brief Author Bio: This is my first year attempting NaNoWriMo, and I am very hopeful that it will provide me the necessary motivation to actually finish something! I have started two novels in the past two years without finishing them, and am going to begin afresh for NaNoWriMo with a "third time's the charm" attitude and a renewed fervor towards attempting completion over perfection. Since the latter is impossible, this seems a reasonable shifting of writing priorities. |

Synopsis: Kelly's Amazingly Awesome Novel
A medieval romantic comedy intending to include such elements as disguises, mistaken identity, political intrigue, occasional drunkenness, and ending with a double wedding and drinks all around!
Scotland: 1296
Edward I of England has captured John Balliol, the Scottish king he helped place on the throne, and declared himself King of Scotland. Bruce MacEllin, a Scottish lord in the lowlands near England's border, is determined to help wage a Scottish war for freedom against him. But he must swear an oath of fealty and provide a semblance of loyalty until all is ready...
Meanwhile, no lord occupies the estate across England's former border to the south of Bruce's lands. When his hunting and cattle raiding into that territory goes too far, King Edward sends him an ultimatum. Either marry an English girl of Edward's choice, or submit yourself to the justice of the royal courts.
There's just one problem: Bruce is already married! Deception and intrigue follow, situational comedy abounds, and the happily ever after that is reached is not one the characters are expecting!
Excerpt: Kelly's Amazingly Awesome Novel
"Calm yourself, I'm coming!" Bruce exclaimed, rising to open the door and see what his sire could possibly want at such a late hour. No alarm had been sounded, so he doubted it was an emergency whatever it was. Undoubtedly his father was irritated at his treatment of some visitor or other from England several days before, when some petty aristocrats had stopped for shelter on their way to Edinburgh.
Before he could open the door, it was thrust open and Bronwyn burst in.
"I AM NOT DEAD!" she screamed at him as she thrust past him and began pacing the room with her fists clenched at her sides. She strode rapidly back and forth across the room in front of the foot of the bed, taking long, quick strides.
Bruce raised an eyebrow.
"Congratulations. Why are you here?"
She continued to pace.
"I am NOT dead, and you will desist from telling everyone and his brother who visits from England that I am. Did you think some attempt on my life successful? Or do you simply mean to disinherit your child and dishonor our marriage?!?"
Bruce was outraged.
"How dare you suggest I have done anything dishonorable! I have married you, and I have even gotten you with child. If I had wanted you dead, you would be dead. Clearly you are not."
