Synopsis: Equal and Opposite

By the time the fighting stopped those of the old generation of politicians and world leaders that weren’t dead were washed up, used up or just done. There was no one else to do it so, even though they were profoundly young the two women that were the real force in the decimated government were Relena Peacecraft and Dorothy Romefeller. On the economic front the Winner Corp., thanks to its long-standing pacifist policies, became the controlling force in a Corporate Conglomerate dedicated to the Cause of Peace. As democracy and demilitarization swept the globe and encompassed the Colonies, rebellions died out and widespread violence all but vanished. In a world were weaponry was past becoming taboo, what was to become of the five boys who could only be described as living weapons?

To one half of the world they were the last, horrible remnants of the Old World and needed to go. There was no talk of killing them, of course not, but they were twisted, violent individuals and certainly needed to be confined. To the rest of the population they were children, used and abused by evil men for evil purposes and now, when there was no more call for them to fight, they should be taken care of. Helped. Not for the first time in her life Relena Peacecraft found herself facing two factions that were utterly opposed. But never before had the call to compromise been so important… or so personal. And as that very compromise was pounded out, day by day in that secured conference room Relena couldn’t help but wonder… once a decision was made, would the boys even follow it?

There is no way for Quatre to take over Winner Corp. One, his sisters have been running it “in his absence” for quite a few years and so there is really no need for him to step in. But two, the Winner Corp is a symbol of the New World that is being built. To the world at large Quatre is, first and only a Gundam Pilot, bringer of destruction and with the blood of hundreds on his hands.

There is no way for Trowa to return to the circus, or any circus. True, he could wear a mask on stage, but he would have to show his face to his employer and the rest of his staff. By this point there is no person over the age of three who doesn’t know what all five Gundam Pilots look like. He’s either a violently tormented young man or a mass murderer. Who would have him as a clown?

There is no reason for Duo to return to L2. His gang will be long gone, were long gone even when he left. Grown up and scattered if they were even still alive. Maxwell church, and all it was to him, is forever ashes. He was never more than casual friends with his fellow Sweepers. At this point, after all the fighting and all the changes made during rebuilding, would he even recognize his old streets? No, L2 was just any other spot on the map to him now. His only home was in his memories.

There is no chance Wufei will return to A0206. Even if it still existed, what could possibly call him back to that rundown, god-forsaken place? At best it would be a random place he was halfway familiar with. At worst he would be sucked back into the relationships and memories and soul-killing questions that had sent him to Earth in the first place. No, he would not be returning to his home colony, even if he could… because there were still things Wufei was running from.

There was nowhere for Heero to go at all.

In public, on stage or screen Dorothy and Relena present a united front. Things are still too fragile to risk honest disagreement. Later one, when the peace is more stable, when one wrong word in a heated debate wouldn’t start another round of war they might allow themselves the luxury of personal opinions. For now, however, the two blonds ruled the world as two halves of a whole. Relena was Beloved and Dorothy was Respected. It was the only way it could work.
If only Relena wasn’t so open to the influence of her jailed brother and his second-in-command. If only Dorothy wasn’t keeping such explosive secrets. Because when the stability of the entire world depended on the mutual drive of a pair of teenage girls, what would happen if one was turned against the other? And what if the legendary, mythic, nightmarish Gundams weren’t as destroyed as everyone thought? The Pilots were allowed to live on the belief that they could no longer do that much damage to the world. What would happen to them if the world found out it was wrong?

And finally, where were Wufei’s pants? Why did Quatre keep locking himself in the bathroom? What was Duo so busy building? And why did one pair of safety scissors have all five Gundam Pilots running scared?
