Synopsis: Mortality Rate

As much as he wished it wasn’t true, Morgan was no longer in the 21st century he had known from before. Forty years have passed since the nuclear war in 2015, the last year of light before the darkness. Mankind had just avoided a third world war, but had been mislead into further conflict by an unknown hand, that which now seems to be overly interested in the sad, old figure of Mr. Morgan Causley.

Life in the Outland is quite simple, really. But now, haunted by an unknown creature, Morgan Causley is forced to leave his paradise home on the outskirts of New York City and attempt to find the one known as The Only Hope- Victor Valentine. Upon finding him, however, he quickly swept up in a mortal conflict between man and machine as evil forces unearth ancient weapons from mankind’s dark past.

Now with their newest member, the group of morally-high figures attempt to lead the last of humanity's survivors through the brewing variance with the Synn Corporation. As mankind begins to fall into many of its old characteristics as well as find old weapons of war, they will be forced to fight internal battles as well as the forces of the supernatural as new revelations about their guardians come into being. The ultimate battle between good and evil will be reborn.

Excerpt: Mortality Rate

Lacalties comes around the corner, positively glowing as a bright, white aura seems to radiate from his skin. His blue eyes are fixed upon the king, stopping a yard from his bedside and raising a sword to eyelevel before letting it slowly drop to his sides. “You still have a chance to walk away from this, Raman. Promise me your neutrality and I will not harm you.”
The king remains silent, save for the constant deep breathing and patting sounds of the garments rustling against his harrowed chest. He looks over, noticing a blade resting upon his night stand. He turns back to the assassin, glancing occasionally at the sword as his fingers twitch with anticipation.
The assassin shakes his head, sweat pouring down as the two continue to be locked in their conflict. Neither move, both fixed upon the gentle sway of the other as they prepare to lunge. “Don’t do it,” he whispers, tightening his grip on the blood-stained sword clasped firmly in his hand.
After another moment, the king lunges over his bed and swipes the blade off his table, jumping to his feet and raising the cold steel to defend his face. Lacalties twitches as his opponent rolls, creating a watery blue aura billowing up like a fountain from the sharp edge of his sword, disintegrating as it touches the air around.
Without a moment to lose, he heaves his arm toward that of his enemy, the muscles in his back bulging out as he puts all his strength into his swing. The sword comes out the other side, sliding gracefully into it’s sheathe at the other side of the assassin’s belt. Positive he had struck his mark, he steps away, watching the king stare in awe as a trail of blood runs down in a crimson stream across his face.
The tip of his sword falls in two, the upper half of his head sliding off the base as he falls back onto his bed sheets. The assassin takes a few steps forward, marveling at the glorious pool of blood regally surrounding the cushioned divan. He stops, hearing a noise from behind.
