Excerpt: Heaven Weeps

The bus slowed to a stop in front of the old abandoned church. Dov looked up from her paperwork to stare frankly at the changes that had occurred overnight. The church yard had been mowed and trimmed, the boards removed from the windows, and the windows polished to a sheen in the morning light. The old marquee that had forlornly announced "For Sale" for the past 6 years now proclaimed "Government can't create heaven on earth."

Dov pondered that sign all the rest of her trip in to work in downtown Alma, the center of America.
