Synopsis: The Leech-Lover Liaison
The city's always had vampires, sex clubs, dirty politics and murder. The difference is, now Jack Doe's right in the middle of it, and there's nothing he hates more than the egotistical dead.
Excerpt: The Leech-Lover Liaison
I'm not sure who he thought I was or what he thought I was capable of, because he kept running with everything his dead frame could muster. "We'll kill you," he taunted, just outside of an arms reach. "My boys and me. We'll kill you and your whole family. Everyone you've ever loved. We'll kill 'em all."
"Can't." I told him as matter of fact as you can during a foot chase. "Already dead."
Maybe what I said tripped him up, I never got a chance to ask. He glanced at me over his shoulder and tried to jump a waist high fence. I reached out to grab his foot as he jumped. I guess we both misjudged the jump and he fell forward, hitting the fence. I got hit with a face and chestful of dust and he wooshed into a cloud of ash. It must have been one of those wooden picket fences people in the sububs liked so much.
When you got right down to it, vampires weren't so tough. If you were smart enough about, even your average blonde teenange cheerleader could take them out.
I stepped back and dusted mysely off. "Well," I said to myself, "no body, no problem." I almost kind of believed it.
