Chapter 1: Scheduled
One day not so long ago two friends set out on a long, long journey. Some would later describe it as 'epic' but that will have come later.
It all started one day in a coffee shop in small town. These two friends, frodo and bilbo...just kidding...their names were Q and Fae. It seems Q wanted to meet and discuss life and everything that could or should be going on in either of their lives at the moment, a converstation which had repeated an incredibly large number of times at the very coffee shop.
Thier day had already been planned out for them by an as of yet unknown force. It had never occured to themto actually ask such questions as who excactly had planned their day for them. It was always convenient to have it all plannned out for them. But on this particular day something was off. The annointed coffee preparer it seems was slightly distracted by an apparently unscheduled and unwelcome masquito bite that constantly itched. Of course the masquito bite wasn't really scheduled but such a possibility was outside of this particular barista's insright or life experience.
The distraction did however cause the barista to alter the formula of the duly appointed Macho Q and Fae had duly ordered at the appointed time as they had done so many times. Life being so predictable and expected and duly appointed that this minor alteration was just enough of a chemical imbalance that something very subtle changed in our two heroes that day.
After discussing boring life-related questions and sipping the mochas casually for several minutes Q stopped mid sentence and Fae, not seeming to notice, looked at him at the same time. An unspoken "what just happened" between them based on facial expression. Then, without breaking their eye contact both picked up their coffees and drank from them. At once they both knew something was different but neither knew to or cared to say so out loud. Eventually they realized this would have to be discussed. Q suggested they leave and go back to his place for a while, Fae agreed.
The barista hardly noticed the exchange, still distracted by the annoying and distracting masquito bite.
Once back at Q's house Q and Fae sat down and still stared at each other a bit trying to figure out what exactly had happened or changed. That in and of itself was something very different for the both of them. Q got up and went over to the window and looked out across all the buildings. It was, he mused to himself, a very buetiful city and his house happened to have a very nice veiw of it. The buildings were all nicely decerated, a hint of red lining the roofs, the sunset accenting and reflecting off of different surfaces, everything looked about as perfect as one could ask for. For the first time in Q's life this seemed like a strange sort of problem for lack of a better term. How is it everything always looked so perfect? Why was everything the way it was and why did have to be so? After several minutes of this contemplation he looked back at Fae. She had a smilar look of contemplation on her face though she was staring more at a book in front of her that she obviosly was not reading in anyway.
Q Came over and sat down at the table alongside fae. They looked at each other for a few moments and then both looked at each and said at the same time:
"Why?"
This was about equal parts usettling to the both of them for whatever reason. Neither of them had thought to ask this particular concept before. Their eye contact with such intensity sat for a nother minute or so until finally Q broke the tension by suggesting they make some dinner and discuss this new why concept in the morning. Fae agreed and the two of them set about cooking up some nice soup and sandwhiches before reting to their respective bedrooms for the night.
