Synopsis: Abnormal

This is a sequel to last year's Nanowrimo manuscript, NORMAL. Since ABNORMAL begins a few months later and contains major spoilers, here is the query blurb for the first book:

Celeste Reed has lived for thirty years as a captive to her own healing power. The slightest contact with her bare skin pulls her consciousness into the other person’s body and compels her to heal, whether the injuries involved are a paper cut or a subdural hematoma.

Then one morning, Celeste wakes up and her power is gone. She’s normal.

Unfortunately, she’s due in an hour to assist in the transplant operation for a dying infant girl. It doesn’t help that the baby’s dad is a shapeshifter with a short fuse. Then there’s the matter of the National Guild that rules over the lives of the super-powered. No one has ever lost their ability before, and the Guild is determined to know why. Men in black raid and ransack her house. Her cat is confiscated. She’s forced to attend the Guild’s Camp for extensive testing, but to no result. The loss of her power remains a mystery. Celeste starts her life over again as a neurotypical and soon finds big perks of normalcy – casual human touch and increased freedom from the Guild’s stranglehold. Yet when a fellow guildsman suffers from a similar loss of power – this time fatal – the Guild promptly abducts her and sends her to Camp for testing. Again.

Celeste doesn’t want to be yanked around anymore. She wants her own life. As her frustrations grow, one thing is clear: it’s high time for insurrection.
