Excerpt: Unfinished Business

"It's just a house."

Those were the last words Chase had said before being unceremoniously kicked out of the car at the corner of Main and Carson. It had all happened so fast that he was still scratching his head when Robin drove off into the night.

"What the hell was that all about?"

After three years, Chase still had moments where Robin was an utter mystery to him. True -- that unpredictable nature had been what drew him to her in the first place. But this time he was really out of his league. Robin had been saying something about a house in a place called Daniel's Corners, two provinces away. Something about an article on Facebook. She'd been nearly hysterical, with disconnected words coming out in gasps. And it turned out to be about nothing more than a house.

It had been a rough few months, but Chase knew the pattern. She'd call him in the morning.

But when morning came, Robin was long gone.
