Excerpt: Gods & Demons

The weather was humid after the rain, making it too warm wear a leather jacket. Thor Odinson, the mythical Norse god of thunder, shrugged out of his jacket ant sighed with relief as the night air, cooled his sweat-soaked t-shirt. He grabbed a pack of cigarettes out of the pocket of his jacket and slung the jacket over his left shoulder. Placing the nicotine stick on his lips, he looked around the alley to make sure that no one was watching. Once he was certain, with a snap of his fingers, a minute ball of fire appeared on his forefinger. Lighting his cigarette, he took a few puffs to fill his lungs with smoke and waved the flame away. He leaned back against the wall of the building and enjoyed his nicotine intake.

Most humans would say that smoking was a dangerous habit, that it would kill you. For Thro, it was not a problem. Being immortal, the only things that would kill him would be another immortal and even then, it would be very difficult to do that as he had his hammer, gloves and magic belt to help him The only other thing that would kill him would be if the blades that Mother Earth gave him and his fellow immortals all those years ago, fell into the hands of the demon.

Thinking about the demon made Thor scowl. It had been eight hundred years since Mother Earth told them to hunt for the demon but neither he nor any of the Norse immortals had gotten close enough to kill it. He had gotten close to killing it three hundred years ago but it escaped. The only consolation that Thor got was that he managed to cut of its arm. He would never forget the aura of evil or the face of his enemy. The way the demon host snarled at him as it tried to kill him with his own sward, the way it bled black, sticky blood when its left hand was severed, the way it stank of sulfur when it teleported.
