According to the Johns Hopkins Family Health Book, NaNoitis is a cyclical disease affecting over 100,000 individuals world wide. The known pathogen for NaNoitis is the intangible, yet highly coveted purple bar. Incubation can last from a few days to four or more weeks. During this time, individuals may experience sweating palms, rapid heart rate and vivid hallucinations which some patients actually name. A mild state of paranoia may ensue while indviduals forgo reality and live in a fantasy world where rational thought patterns are persecuted by word count totals and the only drive working is the hard drive.
Onset occurs suddenly on November 1st with an overwhelming sense of euphoria and the delusion that the individual is infallable and possesses super human powers to overcome caffein overdoses and sleep deprivation. Calorie intake is increased- orally via left-over Halloween candy or intraveniously via vanilla hazlenut lattes. Procrastination becomes a behavior pattern for the duration of this disease. Incurable and highly contagious, most NaNoitis sufferers notice a marked increase of syptoms until mid-November, followed by a week or more of mild depression. For roughly 85%, this is the culmination of the disease and leaves a residual feeling of failure.
The remaining 15% experience mood swings that rival the very worst cases of BiPolar disorder. At precisely 11:59 on November 30th local time, sufferers spontaneously erupt into song and dance, proclaiming that they have acheived the purple bar. This euphoria tapers off by mid-December. Prognosis is fair. However, with each flair up, patients are more likely to succomb to secondary infections such as word count addiction, script frenzy, plot bunny attacks and grandious ideas of best sellers' lists.

Sadly, there is no vaccine. Or should I say thankfully? I mean who REALLY wants to spend each fall with nothing to worry about beyond changing out the Halloween decorations for the Thanksgiving Turkey? Heheh, yup! I got it bad. In fact, I have a secondary infection--MLitis, where, given a foothold by NaNoitis, you feel the strange urge to bring local NaNoitis victims together despite the fact that you don't have the time to do so, and the insanity that ensues from such a high concentration of NaNoitis in one spot threatens to make any given meeting place implode in on itself.

Yes, I definitely have this! It's nice to know that there's a name for it. This is the first time I've ever been afflicted, and from what I understand, subsequent flare-ups are even worse, so that'll be interesting.
And this last couple of days of the boards being down were not good for the condition! Especially noticing today that most of the posts that I replied to were reset back to before I posted. ::sigh::

Actually, I had this nasty bug for a year and a half on March when I first conceived my book. My imagination never stoppes creating plot twists, alien technology, and unfathomable magical spells. Writing this book in November with ultimately slow down my brain and actually get some sleep. Of course, I will have to worry about the next book in the next three minutes after November 30 ends.

Perhaps instead of saying it's terminal, maybe it's better to compare it to the flu. It has a season (always november), the symptoms take different levels of intensity with each individual, and it can mutate in one person and a whole different range of symptoms can be passed on to another person. So what will help cure one persons symptoms won't work for another.

I'm also a chronic sufferer of Newfandomitis, which compels me to seek out new TV shows to watch, and Needmorewordsitis (a secondary infection, causing the sufferer to frequently panic that their wordcount is not high enough.)
