Goodness, I'm at 30k and my MC suddenly acquires a previously unknown twin brother... or it might be her father, see I haven't decided yet, so she doesn't know. I might just write the whole thing so we never actually find out which one it is. I fail. Also apparently around the same time we find out that she's kind of dating, so not only a magically appearing twin brother/father, but a magically appearing boyfriend as well, and she was supposed to be left single so she could be all ambiguous about her sexuality (not that she can't be that with a boyfriend I suppose, but it's not the same thing). Also almost as soon as the boyfriend appeared I stuck him in jail, because that means I don't need to deal with him. *headdesk* Now she insists on angsting about him, because she'd never realised before that she really loved him and she's doing that by acting disturbingly incestuous towards her brother/father who she might or might not realise is related to her.

When did my novel turn into a bad soap opera? This is in no way what I was writing. It's stupid and made of fail. It makes absolutely no sense. And now I have no idea how to continue in a way that might eventually lead to the end that I had all figured out.

Please cheer me up and tell me that someone else has made sudden completely idiotic plot twists. Please?

Well, i've decided that since I completely and utterly FORGOT that my MC had parents, they should just never have existed in the first place. Yep. I've decided that her parents were all in her head. I have no idea why she would make up parents, and how she's been living in a house without them, but there you have it. I'm debating having them exist, but kidnapped by aliens or something so I can explain why they're missing.

Also, i've introduced a character that I had intended to be evil, but she tells me she isn't, so i'm going to have her killed by someone evil instead. Or so I say, but killing characters isn't my thing, so I don't really know that I can do it and I may end up having the lame plot twist of her not really dying, and showing up at the end for the squishy puppies-and-rainbows ending that will occur if I don't suck it up and kill some people.

My story is stagnant, so suddenly I'm really, really, painfully tempted to take a bunch of characters I never used or whose stories I didn't finish and just throw them into my story under a pretense I have no idea about right now, but I can almost guarantee it won't make sense.

My MC was supposed to be quite bisexual but she seems determined to be a militant lesbian. Her girlfriend is however quite happily bi and a sex worker :S

The male MC was meant to be a hero, and save the human race ... instead he is a saboteur who has caused the destruction of the earth.

I invented food replicators to get over the problem of feeding a million refugees on the moon and that caused my characters to have a huge argument about whether the food was 'real' or if it tasted the same, and one says the machines can't make decent iced tea. they ended up calling the machines 'fakers'.

*rolls eyes* none of this was in MY plot. they have taken over !!!

My three guy roommates just decided to open an upscale restaurant in the house they're renting... WTF? Granted, it's a fairly large house, but also very dilpidated and in a sketchy neighborhood. And these guys are all in college and not working, so I'm not quite sure where they're getting the start-up capital for food, supplies, etc.

Fantastic.

My MMC is supposed to go to this coffeehouse and order a specific type of latte in order to notify his contact that he has arrived. Then out of the blue, as he's walking into the place a person in black emerges from the shadows and follows him in. Where did he come from!? But the best is yet to come. My characters decided that there was an anime convention in the area, and the person in black? Well, he's dressed as a ninja of course, as well as a bunch of other people in the place. And then, my MMC's contact ends up being disguised as a ninja on top of it. Talk about random!! *sighs*

a character is freaking out over a file which i have just decided contains nothing of any importance at all. He nearly crashed a van in the process.
Meanwhile, my MC is living in a half occupied house (one of the occupants hasnt been seen since chapter 3) with a twelve year old girl who obviously is a nutcase and a talking bird who just emailed the MC's mum and is a major suspect in his abduction. And he doesnt realise anythings wrond despite waking up in a room full of mousetraps.

In 25,000 words my poor MC has been through a shooting death, fire, stalking incident, stabbing, bombing and an almost hostage situation. Sure, he's a cop but give me a break!

I suppose it's good that I introduced a shrink a few thousand pages ago... he's gonna need it!

Off to add some normalcy to the poor guy's life...

Well, I was going to avoid the whole "chosen one" thing, but suddenly, my main character has been chosen by a god to stop a war.

Said war is one that a character that she was travelling with earlier in the story, and who was going to become a recurring character, and possibly maybe eventual love interest.

I suppose I could still do that, but I'm not sure how, since I'm writing first-person from my main character's pov exclusively... He's got a war to run, now 0_o

Of course, at 12,035 words, I'm not sure if it counts as a plot twist twist yet.

My perfectly normal senior citizen was suddenly visited by the Chick-fil-A cows from space and taken to planet Eat Mor Chikin. She finally hijacks the space feeding trough and gets back to earth, bringing along a renegade cow that decides to eat all her daisies.

My characters found a duck.

No, I'm not kidding.

In a post-apocolyptic world where they have only seen a few species of animals twenty years after the world died, they found a duck. Random duck, right before the beginning of the funeral of their most important leader in history. So what did they do with said duck?

They debated eating it.

But then eventually decided to follow it back to the duck nest to see if there were more; they almost missed the funeral cause they were too busy watching the fluffy little ducklings run around all awkward-like.

I just had someone decide to take over as President of the United States through magical means and her evil mother; if that isn't idiotic then I don't know what is. And my characters just ran off and started a war ten years before it was supposed to happen. My characters took my plot, threw out the outline, and decided they all wanted to create an entirely different story than the one I had in mind.
Actually, this will be a source of great amusement when I re-read this novel at the end of the month.

My MC, who isn't necessarily shy but shouldn't be a real big talker, keeps going into monologues. Basically, I've got a bad habit of just word-vomitting unnecessary exposition about the background of my story. :(

The fate of Humankind rests on a band of teenagers impressing Elves with a concert, when Elves do not recognize music as an art form. I need to have them write a song in Fidelian- the Elves's native language- that will make them simultaneously cry and see the error of their ways by the next chapter. SO not supposed to happen. And I don't SPEAK Fidelian, so this should be entertaining.

Also, for someone that tried to commit suicide, Derora is whipping through therapy incredibly fast. Especially considering her counselor's a student. *sighs*

Well those soaps are written quickly and with little editing. XD I should've gone for something like that. It'd be way easier than what I am doing, and with less emotional commitment.

Frankly, these twists and turns are interesting. I figure that I'll either remove them in the edit or leave them. I've already changed A LOT of things from the beginning of my novel. At the beginning, these Wizards weren't even aware that they had Wizard blood and had to be instructed. A few chapters later, I decided that not only did they know who they were and what they were but they were extremely talented. LOL.

And, my Villain loves to talk to himself. Probably because no one else wants to talk to him.

All of my characters keep wanting to have sex! They are humping like rabid bunnies! Why won't they stop?
I plead with them, I offer them cool dialogue and all manner of magical action, but no, they ignore me and jump one another.

My MC got into a fistfight with some missionaries, who later decided he was a good guy and let him sleep in their hotel room. This later inspired him, while pretending to be blind since he's been framed for murder and arson, to preach in the streets for money. He somehow managed to convince quite a few people to pay good money to drink a mixture so foul they puked on the spot, on the grounds that they were purging themselves of evil. (Evil is apparently the same color as India ink.)

This all happened while my MC's adorable ten-year-old sidekick was robbing suitcases in the train state's baggage check, after the MC smuggled him in inside a small trunk.

Then the pyromaniac gunslingers came back.

My main character has been trapped in an unplanned, multi-layered dream sequence for a few thousand words now, including a martial arts battle with a faceless dream warrior.

Oh, and it turns out he's magical or something. I'm not too sure of the details just yet, but he's about to get all Dragonball Z up in here for no apparent reason.

Maybe it's another dream sequence. MAYBE THE WHOLE THING IS A DREAM.

I fear I've become the M. Night Shyamalan of books.

I've been there a thousand times already... last year I wrote a three hundred and fifty page story which I was getting really into until I realized that it was going nowhere, and made no sense. I just never went back to it. I know what it feels like to be stuck in a situation where nothing makes sense and it all seems like crap all of a sudden!!

The antagonist's second in command along with her loyal band of followers from the previous rebellion that the antagonist is leading have sworn loyalty to my protagonist.

Coming soon, said second in command will find out that it was the antagonist who is resonsible for torturing her in the past and completely crippling her self-esteem, my protagonist will turn into a Mary Sue, the antagonist was created by the same people who turn the protagonist into a Mary Sue, antagonist used to be like the protagonist.

You name the cliche/moronic plot twist, I write it. x3

I'm going to involve wolves somehow. I have no idea how, but wolves shall appear. What the hell this has to do with my story, I have no idea.

I don't know why I like to involve random creatures when I'm stuck. Last year it was mermaids.
