So I think we had this topic last year, but let's do it again! I love seeing where other people write their NaNo masterpieces. :)

Last year, I wrote my 54k NaNo here...
Photobucket
This is my room at home. It was so inspiring when it comes to writing. My wall was painted orange. I could light candles. My family knew not to bug me. ;) The room is painted turquoise now, but I still wish I could spend my November there writing.

This year, I'm at college and will be writing my 50k (hopefully 50k+) here...
Photobucket
I tried to make the dorm room desk area as inspiring as possible, but let's face it... dorm rooms are drab. I brought a lot of stuff from home though (the lamp, the AMORE letters, the little Roman bust, etc.) so hopefully those things will keep me creative.

I get inspired most by what's around me, so my writing space usually has to be a certain way. What about you? Let's see your spaces!

Moderator note: This is a fun thread, but lets please keep posted images to no more than 500 pixels wide, please. If it's large than that, either resize or just link to the pictures (with a note about file size) for those users who are on dialup. Larger images throw off forum formatting and increase load times. Thanks so much guys, and keep having fun!

It all looks so nice and pretty, I would feel ashamed to show my writing space... :P

Your writing spaces are really lovely! Mine isn't nearly so interesting. Maybe I'll have to take some pictures. I think I made a viddler video (for the NaNoWriMo viddler group) last year about my writing space, and absolutely nothings changed, lol.

Good luck this year!!

how lovely they both are! I adore that angel painting in your dorm room.

I'm afraid I have no writing space... I lounge on the couch with my laptop, because the kids don't let me leave the room, or they'll get in trouble.

I'm working on clearing out a room so I can carve out some space of my own... I NEED some space.

This is my writing space...it's essentially a pile of crap on a desk. XD A card from the lady whose dog I took care of over the summer, an origami spider web someone made for me, a dream catcher (although it seems a bit...off. o_O) a bobble head my sister claims is Japanese (it rocks it's head slowly back and forth with solar power :D) a possessed pencil sharpener, a picture of my stepsister and I with my brother, my spare paper shelves, a can of sharpies, some quill pens, and my Transformers and monster truck laptop. And if you're wondering, yes, that is Optimus Prime on the scratchboard next to my calendar, and yes, that is Megatron on the motivational poster above it.

Motivation! :D

I wanna fix mine up pretty before I take my picture, but I will!

I love looking at photos of other people's writing spaces. It's very inspiring.

@OP: I remember your picture from last year! I still fantasize about it.

My writing space is way too normal for me, but I do have a few things sitting around to help me through NaNo. My survival kit is residing under the desk, which is almost as old as I am. The writing quotes on the wall, the little lion figurine at the top and the replica Remus Lupin wand in the box behind it are also key points in my being comfortable for writing. I have a giant window on the right of the quote wall that really helps with inspiration, too. (:

And @OP, both of your writing spaces are insanely gorgeous. The orange wall in the first one is a beautiful idea!

Here's my writing area XD I was colouring a pic at the time I took the photo, and the sheets on the wall are nothing to do with my writing, they're for my drawing.

This is such a good thread idea! I never thought of making a designated "writing space".

My family decided not to renew the lease on our condo and we'll be moving before November comes around, so I can't really make a writing space just yet. But I definitely will the minute we get settled.

So does anyone use a desktop?? I ask because I'm thinking of posting photos of mine and I use a laptop just like every other person who's posted so far.

@ciamore- I think I have that lamp in my writing room, too. Weird/neat!

This is the space I'm converting to my author's retreat. The carpet was removed as soon as I moved in in May because it all smelled bad and there is quarry tile underneath. Otherwise, I haven't touched it since. I'm planning on keeping the writing space to about the extent of the white tile but I might angle it out to connect to the window frame you can see at the right edge of the pic. The white tile area is about 7' wide by 9' deep...cozy!

Photobucket

Started on it last night. Below is how it looks now...I'm doing a guerrilla remodel between now and 10/31 11:59pm. Just about everything you see except the windows will be removed down to studs and subfloor...that might be the condition it's in when I start the literary mayhem.

Photobucket

We'll see how much I get done and if it's worth posting...I'll update this.

I'm going for the steam-punk vibe in my novel so some rawness might be just the ticket. Below is my view out at night. Sorry it's blurry...wasn't using a tripod.

@ wiggyfifes- I thought you were moving the oven into your writing space for a second there. I was like, man, wiggy must type for hours straight to justify putting a kitchen in the author's retreat. :D

GreenEyedGirl: I agree, dorm rooms are drab. This is my third year in one and it takes a lot of creativity to make it your own space. I have slobbish tendencies so my writing space was not fit for eyes other than those of me and my roommate, so I'm working on cleaning before I post a pic :) But kudos to you for your wonderful space, and to everyone else! I am jealous.

This is my writing space ^__^ A little nook in my bedroom. I'm slowly decorating the walls with random stuff, and behind the lamp theres a NaNo calenar I made just waiting to be scribbled on as I add in my daily word counts :) Link to image

Okay, now that I have a laptop (even one that has to be plugged in to function), I have a lot of writing spaces. Here are just the ones outside of my room, since my room's a pigsty right now, and will be until the 31st when I do my pre-Nano cleaning & arranging.

Ciamore--
I totally didn't recognize that picture of your writing space until I got to "Remus Lupin" and went "...wait." Then I checked your username and it all made sense, haha.

I don't have a writing space in my house because all of our rooms are small and/or cramped like you wouldn't believe. I would write downstairs, since no one really goes down there, but the guinea pigs live in the basement and they're so loud and I'm oversensitive to noise, so that's a no can do. So I'm gonna be doing NaNo on my bed like last year, haha. Nothing worth taking a picture of.

I don't stay in one place for very long, so I've had a different writing space each time November has rolled around.

this was last year's... in my sister's room and pretty uncomfortable, but it served it's purpose. If I pulled the middle drawer out and stuck my legs in there, it was much nicer on my back / shoulders than it was otherwise.

as of right now, this is this year's space. it's surprisingly clean at the moment 'cos I just had an invasion of sugar ants and decided to clean EVERYTHING in the room to get rid of them forever.

I might be back to post a third space soon. I'm moving sometime this month, I think, right in time for NaNo. :/

I'd post a pic of mine... except I'll be moving at the end of the month. Or, rather, at the start of the next one. >_> Not only will this probably be very catastrophic to my word count, it also means my writing space won't be finalized until then.

...Of course, I just might leave all my stuff in the moving boxes until I'm done with NaNo.

@Leo Fair we call that "stove" the "frove" because it has a two burner stove top and a mini fridge in the bottom. If it worked it would be staying for sure! Hot water and a french press on top...redbulls below...Heaven. But alas, it does not so it's out.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This is my writing space (tidied a bit for vanity’s sake). And in case you’re wondering what’s what: (clockwise from the top) (1) copy of The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai, (2) ViewSonic LCD monitor (wall mounted) for my Toshiba Portege laptop semi-permanently docked (as the battery life is less than stellar), (3) Acer Aspire netbook for consultation while the Toshiba is otherwise engaged and to make writing more portable when the need arises (much better battery life than the Toshiba), (4) keyboard on pullout shelf and tray of fountain pens (my secret vice), (5) notebooks, notebooks, notebooks, and (6) books, books, books!

Here's a crummy picture of mine. My laptop isn't there because I was using my webcam to take the picture, which explains the quality. XD

I <3 my new big desk.... I just moved into this room, so it's not very decorated yet. Posters and motivational quotes coming soon.

This is a photo I took of my writing space for my blog, The Write Life. I'm also known as Sachi if you haven't guessed by now. I'll also probably write at the dinner table and the coffee house up the road...but no pics of those at the moment. Sorry.

Uh... I... really am not addicted to post-its? :D I just like it when I have my ideas and inspirations all around me. Beats staring at an empty white wall when I zone out xD

It's a pic of the part of my desk that I usually occupy. The desk itself still extends to both sides, though in the left I have the tea & perfumes, and the right books and CDs.

My camera doesn't work, so this is webcam, but anyway:

It's really messy right now, and my desktop is covered in acrylic paint. -wince- The stack of books I have I use in lieu of an easel, which I broke like last year. I'm going to redecorate today, though, so all this will be changed (hopefully).
