All right. So I'm pickpocketing my way through a satire for my novel and I could use a little help! I know what I keep in my pockets, but I'm not about to start feeling up subway riders to figure out what's in theirs. If you would be so kind as to turn out your pockets (or bag/purse, although that's a tall request for some of you) and list the items you pull out here. Bonus points to those who puts a little * next to items they always carry.
I'm really interested to see what people pull out. Here's what I've got going on:
*Wallet (no cash, just plastic and ID)
*Cell Phone, LG Shine
*Keys with bottle opener key chain and gym membership
Pen
iPod with headphones
NaNoWriMo note cards (for when a muse strikes me full in the face and I have to write it down immediately)
Hmm, my pockets aren't terribly interesting. At any rate, your turn!

Oh dear...
Pockets of my coat:
Metal card holder for plastic money, library card, donation card, and a few notes of real money etc.
Plastic card sleeve for... ummm... three different bus/tram/ferry/rail cards. - Don't ask.
Loose change in the form of coins.
A rather mangled box of salmiak flavoured throat/breath pastills.
Fags
Lighter x2
Keyring on lanyard x2 work/home
Numerous old receipts, some looking like they've been through the washer a few times.
A forgotten muesli bar
Mobile phone
Eucaluptus and beeswax lip balm
ETA: Forgot the pink USB memory stick thing - serves double duty as mobile phone charm.
Ok, so I'm a pocket kind of girl, still working on that whole purse thing.

If I'm walking around without my purse you can usually expect to find:
*my cellphone in my back pocket
a grocery list or list of things to do/pick up in my other back pocket
maybe some change or, if you're lucky, a few bills in my side pockets.
If I'm carrying my purse, I've got:

maybe a bit of money, but not much
*my debit card, credit card, and a bunch of 'points' cards (airmiles and the like)
*a few pictures from my wedding
*a bunch of makeup (mascara, lipstick, lip gloss, eyeliner)
*breath mints
receipts for stuff that I want to make sure I keep the receipt for
If I'm at work, or out on an errand for work, it's a different ballgame:
*a mini day-organizer thing
----------*three different types of screwdrivers and a small adjustable wrench
*two or three different colored pens
*my pager
*a set of keys for the different tool cabinets and the like

Jumper pocket: tissue fluff and a shopping list
Jeans pocket: house keys, work keys, mp3 player, phone
Coat pocket: purse (some loose change, credit/debit cards, receipts, club memorship cards, shop loyalty cards, photo of me and sister), throat sweets, 3 biros, pencil, blank scrap paper, scrap paper with scribbled map/directions to various pubs/friends houses, glucose energy tablets, emergency sanitary towel in small case, lip gloss, eye liner, mirror.
[edit:] Have just double checked my coat and missed: cinema tickets, sweet wrappers, lighter (non-smoker, but used to have a lot of smoking friends. Most of them have since quit but the lighter has stayed in my pocket, forgotten), bus tickets, train tickets, young persons railway card, out of date student card, appointment card for a tattoo i got 2 years ago... I really need to go through them more regularly and clear out the junk...

I'm surprised there aren't more of you that travel light out there! But that's ok. For research purposes, all you pack mules are proffering fantastic bits!
Douleur, I think the Japan-inspired hand towel idea is wicked clever, as is the coffee can lid! I never thought about the logistics of being FTM.
Pocket, isn't that the way it always goes when you don't have something on hand? Thanks for the new word, too! (Plectrum, that is)
DoomPixie, an appointment card from two years ago? I think we all have that kind of stuff stocked away somewhere. :)
ReiKnight, you mentioned being "lost in the bush" twice. I think that means you're an outdoorsy, camping type, but not 100% sure. Glad we could help clean out your bag! :)
Mistress Aeryn and Appaloosa05, I think you're the only two that combats nature's monthly call; nobody else listed pads yet! Also surprise we haven't had somebody pull out a condom or amyl nitrate... or something. O:)
IlFantasma, it's going to take me a minute to figure you out by your list :)
Superb answers, everyone! Noticing a lot of *'s, didn't realize so many people were that habitual. I fly by the seat of my pants, so only carry the necessities and then whatever extras are needed for that particular day.
Also, I'm liking the couple of sentimental items listed, like jimternet's aftershave card and Toreshi's wedding photos.
Favorite Item Shout Out: Hanson.net Fan Club Membership Card.
I had no idea they were still around! (anybody else have a favorite item they see listed?)
Thanks again everyone! And keep 'em coming! :)
