Another novel, short stories, fanfiction, scripts, grocery lists? What things do you write during the rest of the year?

I'm constantly splitting my writing time (which I have a lot of, and no, that's really not a good thing) between fleshing out other novel ideas, writing short stories, and roleplaying. My best friend and I have been writing a serial novel together for almost 5 years now, and though we have no plans to try to get it published, I don't regret spending most of my creativity on writing scenes/stories with her, instead of working on my actual novels.

But I did tell her that I needed November to myself this year, to do NaNo!

So, what about you? What will you be writing when November is long gone?

I write novels year-round :) It's my entire life!

It's pronounced "dack" -- All my stories are autobiographies. Some are just a little more shameless than others!

Yep, I, too, write novels and novellas all year 'round. I'm not much of a short story person, but I will write one of those too if an idea hits me.

Short stories, novellas. Of late I've been writing a lot of (crappy) poetry, too.

I sometimes take bandom slash fic requests from people, too, with some fun results.

I'm one of those people that intend to write year round but for one reason or another don't get round to it. It's one of the reasons why I love NaNo so much. It makes me write rather than just think about writing. The rest of the year I might come up with ideas, I write them down but I don't actually write them.

Having said that I do write occasionally, a few weeks ago I got seized by the desire to write and I wrote a part one of three (fanfiction crossover story) that was 17,000 words in one weekend. I wrote a short story that was 5,000 words one lunchtime the following week. Sometimes that happens, but mostly I don't write during the rest of the year. Though I want to change that, I do. I want to write regularly week in week out, or redraft and edit week in week out.

Although I suppose you could say I am writing it's just not fiction. I write code, I am a computer programmer, well web programmer. This actually invades my novelling life as well. I've got so used to putting a semi colon after the double quotes that's used for speech that I do it automatically as that's what you do in PHP. It makes me dialogue look a little strange until I snap my mind out of it's programming track.

When I was younger I wrote (and read) a lot of Harry Potter fanfiction. Now, I spend most of my time writing short stories and poetry. November's really the only month I attempt to write an actual "novel." Usually, with school and stuff, it gets too difficult to really hunker down and write anything more than 20,000 words...

I also keep a journal, if that counts...

Life would be so much better with a plot.

Stopped writing novels ever since my kid started college (I started working a full-time day job), and turned to writing novellas instead--a bit easier to handle when one's days are fragmented. However, I'm looking to NaNoWriMo to kick start another novel, especially since my kid's going to graduate in December (and hopefully find a job, please God).

My day job? I write bid proposals for a civil/structural engineering firm. :-) Fiction proposals...engineering proposals...it's all about pitching your work to the customer. I also write company newsletter articles.

I also write occasional blog posts about the craft and techniques of writing, publishing and market trends, and general writing...stuff.

I work from home as a Freelance Writer for several private clients and two websites. I have cut back on a lot of my work over the past 9 months to focus my time more on my novel writing and non-fiction books I have been wanting to write.

I write every single day, year-round. I don't even take holidays off.

I keep four blogs too, so that keeps me writing daily as well.

Plus I hang out on these boards year-round too. I always have writing on the brain. I think its an illness. o_O

I mostly write long-winded text roleplays and short stories. Just today, I wrote a short piece about the freak show acts at a circus.

My friend and I have been working on a novel for the past 3 years ~ we're almost done editing it, but college prevents us from finishing that any time soon (mostly because we're too lazy). When not working on that, I write the the occasional short story (which sometimes morph into novellas against my will) and work on fleshing out my other novel ideas. Most of my stories remain incomplete for long stretches of time because I work on too many different things at the same time.

I write mostly in my journal the rest of the year...I try to write every day but circumstances have prevented it lately. I can't go too long without writing something though, and outside of my journal, I mostly just create bits of stories that might get used in something someday.

Unfortunately, I am generally a 'One day' writer, but hopefully the Goddess of lucky shall rain hell and chaos around my forsaken head and allow me to create a habit of a word goal per day.

I have my idea, and I've given it a couple years of thought, but I still just need to tie everything together and make the plot flow better.... then just type the [insert obscenity].

Hrm, let's see. Working on some monstrosity of a fantasy novel, a gritty YA novel, and two romances (I have a feeling these will get published first if anything of mine ever does, though they're not my best work by any means. They're just closer to being finished.) Besides those, I enjoy roleplaying over AIM with a friend of mine C:

Blogs (I have an LJ and an actual site where I write about whatever's on my mind), tweets, a paper journal, actual fiction. I'm trying to break into the real writing world. Oh, and yes, I do write grocery lists. There's a month-old list in my purse for some reason.

I work on another fantasy fiction novel I am trying to get done and after it is done I can buy myself a Macbook YAY.
Or I Journal.

Started off writing poetry as a young and in love teenager. Then I grew up a bit and started journalling. I love my journals and keep them all safe.

Outside of NaNo and during it I roleplay daily. I have eight roleplays running at the moment. Seven are with my closest friend and the other is with her and my second closest friend. I also write the required school essays and stuff. Occasionally I do fanfiction but it's always angsty. The plot of my current one is that everyone ends up dead. Cheerful, huh?

But yeah. The bulk of my writing is for school. And believe me, I go all out. I picked my classes based on the most essay assignments and for one class we have one due each week. Most people do one small doublespaced paragraph. I do three large single spaced.

Fanfiction, mostly in the summer. (: I like it, because the world's already created, and I don't have to think (that much) about it. I also write poetry, because I enjoy poetry (wow, that was redundant), and short stories. :D This will be my second attempt, first WIN at a novel, but I have a feeling I'll enjoy writing them.

Short stories, mostly, although not a lot of those get done either. I generally draw a lot the rest of the year, doing character sketches, random drawings, and comic layouts. I suppose comics are writing after a fashion, but still, I should write a lot more often than I do.

Fanfiction. A bit of poetry and original short stories, but the fanfiction has a habit of taking over. (That's why I love November for dedicating to original fiction.) Oh, and journal-type lj.

Short stories, novels, novellas, scripts, whatever I can think of and have the drive to write. I also work and whatnot, which rather gets in the way of writing. I do try to get as much in as possible during the year, though. I'm never bored anymore.

Well, it seems like roughly, my habits throughout the past two years have been like this:

After NaNoWriMo, I'm on a writing high and I feel completely inspired to finish up any novel I didn't finish (from earlier in the year) or just work on revising some short stories. Eventually I lose a bit of the motivation after the NaNoWriMo high falls back down to Earth....at that point, I at least try to keep up some blogging. Then I try to re-focus or find new inspiration by doing new things in my life, like joining pilates, learning a new language, etc. It's done me well so far. =)
