Synopsis: Lamenting the Hedgehog's Dilemma
It's philosophical, it's anecdotal, opinionated and self-indulgent as Hell. You're going to love it.
"To the best of my understanding, the phrase “the hedgehog’s dilemma” refers to a person’s inability to get close to another, as, despite how unbearable the loneliness may be, intimacy leaves you far too vulnerable to hurt, hence the dilemma. To lament (to patronise) means to regret and/or mourn."
Excerpt: Lamenting the Hedgehog's Dilemma
"We were someplace around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like 'I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive . . .' And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming: 'Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?'"
- “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” by Hunter S. Thompson.

These animals are your ‘crazy’ and the bane of your existence. I feel like the aforementioned acclaimed author, Hunter S. Thompson, (ego-stroking, much?) coming off a high, as I realise just our journalistic and metaphorically masturbatory my attempt at “novel-writing” has been, thus far.
