Brief Author Bio: I've been a writer all my life, but finally 'got serious' about my own writing in 2004. I'm a trained high school English teacher, with an emphasis in writing, but don't currently work in the field. I've written novels, poetry, essays, and children's stories. I've also done a good deal of academic writing in my time, and plan to write a non-fiction, (biography), piece eventually. My most rewarding writing experience has been with my partner in writing and life, Lee. We've collaborated in person and also via email and instant messenger, (a GREAT way to write dialog!). I've also had wonderful experiences in writing classes, writers' workshops, and other group settings. I live in beautiful Savannah, Georgia, which feeds my artistic soul. |

Synopsis:
I'm continuing with the saga I worked on during last year's NaNoWriMo, (50,000 words isn't a novel for me, merely a few chapters). My story fits best into the genre of historical fiction, because it is set in the past, (the early 1950s), but I prefer the term 'fact-fiction' since there is a great deal of factual material mixed in with the fiction. The 'historical' aspect isn't just a setting for the story, but it IS part of the story.
It is the story of two young lovers in 1953 Manhattan. Linda is a waitress as well as an aspiring poet/writer and is saving money to attend college. Roddy is a former child movie star who has moved to New York to learn to actually act. He is also a musician and songwriter, part of a band trying to get 'discovered' and is learning his craft as a photographer.
These two are in the center of the emerging youth/Beat culture of NYC and interact with many 'real' people, (acutally, Roddy's a 'real person' as well).
This story is part of a multi-volume series, the second of probably about eight, that follow Roddy and Linda from 1952 to the end of 1960. I've been working with these characters for about four and a half years now, and expect to work with them for many years to come.
