Excerpt: Baby on the Bridge

"Sir, they're on the move. They're approaching at low speed but on a collision course vector."
"Move away on evasive pattern, target the..." At that point the ship shifted as the navigator keyed in the course change. The Captain wavered, turned green and vomited all over the tactics station. On pure reflex, the tactics officer jumped up, pushing his chair backwards. There was a sharp crack as the sturdy metal connected with the Captain's shins and a dull thud as her head connected with the deck. The last thing she saw as her blurred eyes closed was the shouting face of her second in command as the bridge erupted into chaos.
