Brief Author Bio: Call me Viper or Raven, please. VR if you have to. I'm 14 years old and will turn 15 on July the 7th 2009. I'm currently living in the Netherlands, meaning I'm Dutch, but I write in English since that may even be easier for me than Dutch. |

Synopsis: An Unlikely Combination
Alexander, or Lex for short, has always been an ordinary boy. He has loving parents, an annoying, yet cute little brother and regarded as a nice and upstanding young boy. A mere week after his birthday, he finds an amulet on the ground with one sentence written on it: We are coming for you, Alexander. He dismisses it as a joke, but on the same day, he dies. Now a ghost, Alexander is unsure what to do. His prayers are only answered when he meets Holly, a magically gifted girl and the only one who can see Lex. She promises to help him find out how he died, why he died and why he can't cross over. On their journey they meet allies and even more enemies. Will they succeed?
Excerpt: An Unlikely Combination
I fell onto my knees in shock. My eyes widened, my heart was racing and time itself seemed to stop. I held my breath without thinking, too scared to let it go. The boy on the ground... blonde hair, blue eyes... simply working pants, a dark jacket... that boy was me!
There was no doubt about it. I was lying there, my eyes closed, blood dripping from my stomach-area and unmoving. Why was I there? I couldn't be in two places at once! I couldn't be... had the voice been real? Had it been Boris who carried me and talked to me before I fainted... Had I not fainted? No. No! This wasn't right! I couldn't be dead! ...could I?
No... I was right here. It had to be someone else. I then realized I was still holding my breath, but felt no need to release it. I was doing fine without oxygen. No! I wasn't dead! I was alive! I...
I was dead. It hit me like a rock. I hadn't been lucky. I hadn't deserved to live. I had died, just like all the other bodies I saw. Seeing my body there was the strangest thing I'd ever felt. Stranger than that blur from before. It felt so unreal and yet real at the same time. It couldn't be happening, yet it had. I released my breath, although it was useless. I felt no air going into my lungs. I quietly crawled over to my body.
How had I died? Had it been the fire? The smoke? ...the smoke. Yes, it had been the smoke. I stood up and looked at the circle of people. I didn't recognize a lot of people, except Boris that was. But one of them had to know it was me. I looked at Boris, who seemed fine again. He sighed and turned to the one who had tried to comfort him before.
